Balloon Safaris
Overview
One of the most unique ways to experience a safari in Tanzania is from a hot air balloon. Floating serenely over the savannah in a balloon basket allows you to observe wildlife and landscapes from new heights and perspectives. Tanzania’s national parks like the Serengeti provide exceptional landscapes for these ballooning adventures.
Most hot air balloon safaris begin right before sunrise. You’ll drift up as the sun peeks over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the plains. From above you can spot different animals – tiny dots of elephants, zebras, wildebeests, and more grazing in the grasslands. A bird’s eye view gives you the chance to appreciate the enormity and splendor of East Africa’s ecosystems.
While aloft in the balloon, your pilot can maneuver gently down for close-up views of animals. Floating silently overhead also means you don’t startle the wildlife below. Balloon rides typically last about 1 hour, followed by champagne breakfast in the bush. Many operators include a VIP game drive after landing.
A Tanzania balloon safari beautifully combines breathtaking aerial scenery with intimate wildlife encounters. While more expensive, a ride offers a special perspective of the country’s famous parks and animals. Gliding over the Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater in a hot air balloon creates lifelong memories and spectacular photos.
